How Much Does It Cost to Move a Boiler to a Different Room?

Why would you move a boiler?

Common reasons include freeing up kitchen cupboard space, moving the boiler into a utility room or garage, or relocating it as part of a kitchen or bathroom renovation. Sometimes an older boiler is in a location that does not comply with current flue regulations and needs moving.

What does it cost?

The relocation cost sits on top of the boiler price:

• Short move (same wall or adjacent wall): £500-£800
• Different room on the same floor: £800-£1,200
• Different floor (e.g. kitchen to loft): £1,000-£1,500+

These costs cover extending or rerouting gas pipework, water pipes, the condensate drain, and the flue. The further the boiler moves, the more pipework is needed.

What about the flue?

The flue must exit through an external wall or roof. There are strict regulations on where a flue terminal can be positioned - minimum distances from windows, doors, air vents, and boundaries. Is it worth combining with a boiler replacement?

If your boiler is more than 10 years old, combining the move with a new boiler installation often makes better financial sense. You avoid paying relocation costs for an old boiler that may need replacing soon anyway, and a new combi may be more compact, giving you more flexibility on placement.

Do I need building regulations approval?

Moving a boiler is notifiable work under Building Regulations. As Gas Safe registered engineers, we self-certify the installation and notify Building Control on your behalf - you do not need to arrange a separate inspection. We handle all the paperwork.
